VEU Rebate Applications in Geelong
We are the ones who do the paperwork. Victorian Energy Upgrades discounts applied to the job, checked against your property before you commit.
- We lodge the application
- Eligibility confirmed in writing
- No dollar figures until we have checked
- Based in South Geelong
A discount on the job, not a cheque in the mail
The Victorian Energy Upgrades program works by paying for energy that does not get used. When an eligible high efficiency system replaces an inefficient one, certificates are created for the energy saved, and the value of those certificates is passed to you as a reduction in the installed price.
The part people find confusing is that you never touch it. There is no form to download, no rebate to claim afterwards and no waiting for a payment. It is handled by the accredited provider doing the work, and it appears as a lower price on the quote.
Hot water upgrades
Replacing electric or gas hot water with a heat pump is the activity with the strongest position for most households.
Heating upgrades
Replacing inefficient heating with high efficiency reverse cycle is supported, subject to what is being removed.
Owner occupiers and renters
Both are catered for, under different conditions. Landlords and rental providers have their own set of requirements.
Businesses
Commercial activities exist under the program too, with different equipment lists and evidence requirements.
What we will and will not tell you
There is a lot of advertising in this space quoting large numbers next to small print. We would rather do it the other way around.
We will not quote a dollar figure up front
The value depends on the activity, the equipment and the rules at the time, all of which change. A number in an advertisement is not a number for your house.
We will not promise eligibility
Eligibility is determined by the program against your specific circumstances. We check it, we tell you the answer, and if the answer is no we say so.
We will show you both prices
What the job costs, and what it costs after any discount that applies. So you can see what is being applied rather than take it on trust.
We handle the administration
Application, documentation and evidence. It is our job, not something we hand back to you after the install.
How a rebate job runs
1. Tell us what you have
The existing system, its age and the property type. This is what determines whether an activity applies at all.
2. We check eligibility
Against the current program rules and the approved product list, for your address and your circumstances.
3. Quote showing both prices
Full price and the price after any discount, stated in writing, with what the discount depends on.
4. Install and lodge
We do the work, issue the compliance certificates and lodge the program paperwork. Nothing comes back to you to complete.
Not sure whether your job qualifies?
Ring and describe the existing system. It usually takes one phone call to know whether it is worth pursuing.
The inputs that decide it
Rather than publishing a figure that may not apply, here is what the answer actually depends on. If you can tell us these four things on the phone we can usually give you a direction immediately.
The existing equipment
Type, fuel and age of what is being removed. This is the largest single input, because the program pays for the saving against what was there.
The replacement equipment
It has to be on the approved product list for the relevant activity. Not every model of an otherwise eligible product type is listed.
The property
Location, whether it is residential or commercial, and whether it is owner occupied or rented. Each has its own conditions.
The rules at the time
The scheme is reviewed and adjusted. Values and eligible activities change, so a quote is checked against the rules on the day, not last year’s.
Air Conditioning Geelong does not set the eligibility rules or the certificate values for the Victorian Energy Upgrades program, and nothing on this page should be read as a guarantee of eligibility or of any particular discount. We check your circumstances against the current rules and confirm the position in writing before you commit to work.
Things we get asked to correct
It is not a government payment to you
No money arrives in your account. The value is applied as a discount by the accredited provider doing the installation.
It cannot be added afterwards
The application has to be part of the job. If the work is already done by someone else, it cannot be retrofitted into the scheme.
A quote without it is not automatically dearer
Some quotes show the discounted price without explaining what it depends on. Ask what happens to the price if eligibility does not hold.
It does not make every upgrade free
It reduces the cost of eligible activities. On some jobs the reduction is substantial, on others it is modest, and on some it does not apply at all.
Where we work
We lodge applications for work across Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast, and the administration is done from our South Geelong office by the same team that scheduled the install.
If you are outside the listed suburbs, ring and ask. Most of the surrounding towns are within our normal run.
Areas we cover
- Corio and Lara
- Belmont and Grovedale
- Leopold and Drysdale
- Ocean Grove and Portarlington
- Armstrong Creek and Torquay
Rebate questions
The honest answer to most rebate questions is that it depends on your specific circumstances. Ring and we will check yours.

What is the Victorian Energy Upgrades program?
It is a Victorian Government energy efficiency scheme. Approved providers install eligible high efficiency equipment, generate certificates for the energy saved, and pass the value of those certificates to you as a discount on the job. You do not apply for it yourself and you do not get a cheque. It comes off the price of the work.
How much will I get?
That depends on the activity, the equipment being replaced, the equipment going in, your property and the certificate rules in force at the time. Those rules and values change, sometimes at short notice, which is why we do not publish a dollar figure. We confirm your position in writing before you commit to the job.
Am I eligible?
Eligibility is set by the program, not by us. Broadly it depends on the property being in Victoria, the existing equipment qualifying as something the program wants replaced, the new equipment being on the approved product list, and the work being done by an accredited provider. Rental properties, businesses and owner occupiers each have their own conditions.
Do I have to do the paperwork?
No. We handle the application, the documentation and the evidence the scheme requires. What we need from you is confirmation of the property details, access on the day and a signature at the right point. If someone tells you to lodge it yourself afterwards, that is not how the scheme works.
Which of your services can attract a discount?
The activities most relevant to our customers are hot water replacements, particularly moving to a heat pump, and replacing inefficient heating with high efficiency reverse cycle. Whether a specific job qualifies depends on what is being removed and what is going in. We check it against your property before quoting rather than assuming.
Check your rebate position
Tell us what system you have now, roughly how old it is, and whether the property is owner occupied, rented or commercial.
We will check the current program rules against your circumstances and come back with a straight answer, including if the answer is that nothing applies.
We lodge the application ourselves as part of the job. There is nothing for you to fill in afterwards.
